Gary Hunt
Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Bass, Theory
Besides having over 25 years experience teaching students of all ages
and over 35 years of playing experience (having performed in various bands in
Maryland, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania), Gary has a B.A. in
Music from Hood College. He taught a popular guitar Class for Frederick County
Parks & Recreation for several years and is also the Lesson Coordinator at MAKE
'N' MUSIC. Styles he teaches are Rock (Classic, Alternative, Modern), Metal, Pop,
Blues, and Folk; he also teaches reading and music theory. He is available Monday thru Thursday and Fridays starting in September.

Tim Underkoffler
Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Bass, Music Theory
Tim has been teaching for over 30 years. His styles include rock, alternative rock,
metal, pop, and country. He has played in many bands, and studied music and
music theory in college. Tim likes to focus on the techniques each student needs
to play the particular style they prefer, and he tries to get students playing
according to their style and ability as soon as possible. Tim is available
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 2:30, and on Saturdays from
12:00 till 5:00.

Mike Brennan
Drums, Percussion
Mike has been playing drums 48 years (40 professionally)
and his styles extend from funk to rock. His major success was in the
80's opening for bands like Metallica, Armored Saint, Wasp, and Anthrax,
while touring with heavy metal acts. Mike also toured the U.S. with various
top 40, show, country, and rock bands. Mike has been teaching at Make 'N'
Music for 25 years, and considers his strengths accuracy in timing, technique,
double bass, linear grooves, and coordination. Mike has done studio work on all
percussion levels levels. Mike is available for lessons Tuesday thru Thursay 1-8pm and Saturday 12-5pm

Marlin King
Electric and Acoustic Guitar, Voice,Music Theory
Marlin has been playing for 46 years and his musical styles and
performance techniques include classic rock, blues, R & B, as well as country and
modern rock. With his years of experience, he is well suited to coach the
performance aspects of music. He especially enjoys working with guitar and voice
performers and tailors the lessons to the students interests and goals,
taking a casual, no pressure approach, while helping the student understand
how music works in the simplest way. Marlin believes music is a great way to
remove stress and points out that research has revealed that it also
enhances IQ. Marlin will need no introduction to many in the Frederick and the
tri-state area, as his bands have always been in demand for the past 4 decades. Marlin

Steve Beck
Electric and Acoustic Guitar
Steve has been playing guitar for over 20 years and specializes in
contemporary and traditional blues. In addition, his musical styles
include rock, classic rock and heavy metal. Steve played professionally on the
West Coast for several years before returning to the Frederick area. Some of
Steve's biggest influences are Robben Ford, Gary Moore, and Michael Schenker.
In 2003, Steve was invited to play at the Frederick Blues Festival as part of
the Frederick All Stars Blues Band. He is currently involved in several
projects, including a blues band (Black Magic and Last Dog Standing) and St.
Katherine Drexel's Church group and Youth Ministry music. His band members and
group have won several awards by the Frederick Blues Society in 2003 and 2004. The
winner of best area Blues Guitarist for the last two years, Steve believes
that music is an expression of your inner self. He enjoys teaching students of all
ages, emphasizing the techniques behind whatever style the student enjoys
playing, rather than just the mechanics of playing. Steve is currently available
on Thursdays.

Edgar Myers
Drums, Percussion, and Music Theory
Edgar has been playing professionally for over 20 years, private
instructor for over 15 years, and has studied with such notables as John Crocken,
Virginia Rieneke, Dennis Chambers, and Larry Bright. Having played in numerous
successful bands and on a variety of recordings, Edgar is now on the
teaching staff at Cumberland Valley School of Music. Edgar’s teaching approach
is to try and draw out the individual students’ direction and talent. In
addition to teaching note value, time signatures, and good solid time, he stresses
the musicality of the drum set. Practice and fun are the keys to
developing comfortable and relaxed control, coordination and independence so one
can reach their full potential on the instrument. Currently, he can be seen
playing with Maurice Arenas, CUSM Big Band, and is working on a new recording
project. Edgar is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Phil Digioia
Drumset and percussion
Phil has been playing drums for 8 years. He teaches all styles from Rock, Funk, Jazz, Latin, R&B, Hip Hop and Drumline.
He has worked with Howard Burns of FCC, Matthew Shearer of MHS and Joseph Henson of the Army Jazz Ambassadors.
He currently plays with his bands My Best Friends Birthday and The Casey Cavanagh Trio

Chris Smith
Electric, Acoustic, Classical Guitar, Bass Guitar
Chris is a native of Frederick, Maryland. He started playing music at the age of 8 and at the age of 14 picked up the guitar and
at 17 the bass and never looked back. In high school he was part of the advanced music studies program where he studied sight
singing and ear training, music history and music theory. Also he has studied several years with a New York studio musician and
Peabody conservatory graduate mastering jazz performance, jazz theory, rock guitar, jazz bass, rock bass and classical guitar.
At the age of 19 he began teaching private guitar lessons and became a full time musician playing guitar and bass. He has played
many gigs from bars and clubs to weddings and other corporate events. Playing with blues to hard rock bands to solo performances
and jazz fusion groups. His ability to jump from guitar to bass and from one style to the next is seamless and his professionalism
is unmatched. In addition to his music Chris also has his degree in audio engineering which he received from Omega recording
studios. He is an expert in pro tools and live sound reinforcement. He has recorded many of his own bands as well as others from
blues to metal bands to singer songwriter and solo instruments. Also under his belt are many live sound events from bands, and
music recitals all the way up to events at the dc convention center, the Kennedy center and also for the inauguration of
President Barrack Obama. Chris is available Mon-Fri 12-8.

Ted Shusterman
Acoustic, classical and Electric Guitar, Chapman Stick and Music Theory
Ted has been playing guitar for 16 years. He has performed in local bands and guitar ensembles,
and holds a BA in Guitar Performance from Shepherd University. He has studied classical guitar
with Glenn Caluda, William Feasely, and Maurice Arenas. His styles include Classical Guitar,
Rock and Metal, as well as teaching music theory and note reading. Ted also specializes in two handed tapping techniques on guitar and Chapman Stick. Each leasson is tailored to
the needs of the student, focusing on the fundementals of music while keeping the student's goals in mind.

Michael L. Spinoe, Jr.
Guitar and Bass
Michael has been teaching professionally for 15 years, beginning
through intermediate guitar and bass guitar. Michael also teaches ear
training, theory and sight reading. Michael has played professionally for 25 years and
had been signed to CBS records with regional act Cracked Actor. He has spent
many years touring from Canada To Florida in support of his music. He has spent
many a semesters in college for Music/Music Theory. Currently, Michael is
performing in a solo-acoustic act and writing and recording originals. Michael is
available on Saturdays for lessons.

Jim Cupino
Electric and Acoustic Guitar, Theory, Sight Reading
Jim began teaching guitar at local area music studios while in High School, and
helped to establish the first guitar study program in Frederick County Public
Schools during the 1970s. He is comfortable playing and teaching a variety of
musical styles including, Classical, Country/Western, Rock, Folk and Blues.

Matthew Metz
Mandolin, Clawhammer Banjo, Acoustic and Electric Guitar
Matthew played Rock & Roll for years before ever picking up a Mandolin. After a
friend introduced Matthew to 'Old Time' music, he became obsessed. Shortly after,
Matthew started playing Mando, Banjo, and Acoustic Guitar. Matthew has toured the
country, playing with The Fox Hunt, and continues to play shows on a regular basis.
In addition to the basics, and various techniques, Matthew instructs on the various
aspects of Performance and playing with other musicians. Specializes in Bluegrass, Old-Time,
Rock, Blues and Country.

Spencer Leckliter
Bass Guitar
30 years playing in the area's Top Bands. Spencer specializes in Blues and R&B style
Bass and has toured across the country and Canada. In addition to gigging and teaching,
Spencer is also one of the area's best studio session players.
